With the exception of a few special editions that have proliferated over the past few years –Like the pricey Mk IVProduction of the second-generation Ford GT effectively ended in 2022. After six successful years, Ford has discontinued its flagship two-door performance car, with no sign of a successor in the works.
That may change soon. Ford The newly rebranded Ford Racing division is preparing to unveil an all-new “production road car” early next year, it announced today. Could GT make a comeback? It’s unclear at the moment, but we’ll find out more when the new car debuts in January.
Details are still scarce, but Ford described the upcoming model as “a testament to how deeply our racing innovations are integrated into the vehicles you drive every day.” This suggests a road car with serious track-inspired performance, and potentially a lot of horsepower.
If this turns out to be a new Ford GT, it will represent the third generation of the modern GT nameplate, following the first generation’s debut in 2005 and the second generation launching in 2017. However, it’s possible Ford has other plans in mind.
There are rumors that Ford is testing a more extreme Mustang GTD, as the company competes with the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X for the Nürburgring lap record. Another possibility is 1000 HP electric off-road vehicle CEO Jim Farley previously hinted at it.
Everything Ford has up its sleeve will be revealed on January 15, 2026.
