Ford’s recall woes continue as the automaker issues another one for nearly 1.5 million older vehicles. These cars may have faulty rearview cameras that can display a distorted image or fail to work at all, increasing the risk of accidents.
The recall includes 2015-2016 Ford C-Max and 2015-2016 models. Ford Escape2015 Ford Explorer2019 Ford Fiesta, 2015-2019 Ford Flex, 2016 Ford Fusion, 2020 Ford MustangFord Taurus 2015-2016 and 2018-2019, Lincoln MKT 2015 and 2019, and Lincoln MKZ 2015.
Ford It began investigating allegations of defective rear cameras in February 2025 after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) contacted the automaker. NHTSA has received vehicle owner questionnaires containing complaints about cameras across a range of makes and model years.
The automaker has begun reviewing supplier documents, warranty statements and owner complaints. Although it was “unable to identify a vehicle safety-related defect in all combinations of vehicles equipped with this analog camera,” the automaker decided to issue the recall.
The affected vehicles are part of an agreement Ford entered into with NHTSA last month regarding how it handles rearview camera claims from 2015-2025 model year vehicles. The duo agreed to divide the affected vehicles into two parts: cars that will be recalled and vehicles covered by a 15-year extended warranty on the cameras, according to the Indian TOI website. in Recall reportFord says it is aware of 12,487 warranty claims related to defective rearview cameras, and received its first claim in July 2014. The company also said it is aware of five incidents related to the defect, but has received no reports of any injuries.
Ford has already begun informing owners of the problem by sending out a temporary remedy notice. Owners will have to take their vehicle to a Ford service center for inspection and possible repair. The automaker expects to send out the final remediation notice by the middle of next year as it prepares for the fix.
