Lexus recently signaled the beginning of the end for the LS with the Heritage Edition honoring the car that essentially launched Toyota’s luxury brand. But a lot has changed in the 36 years since the original LS debuted. In 2025, some buyers prefer to drive or drive a pickup truck.
This dramatic shift in customer preferences is reflected in Lexus’ decision to introduce the vehicle the mom (Luxury Engine) as a high-end version of the Alphard. But that’s not all. The LS itself is now getting the minivan treatment, at least in concept form. The Japan Mobility Show, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show, will host this surprise debut: a six-wheeled LS pickup truck.
Mysterious images emerged during a 90-minute live broadcast that we watched closely, hoping to catch a glimpse New LFR. Despite numerous teasers, the supercar has been noticeably absent. Instead, we were truly impressed when an official video previewed the six-wheeled LS pickup truck concept.
With the Japan Mobility Show not opening until October 29, you’ll have to make do with these teasers for now. It appears that the concept may have an asymmetrical door design, as there does not appear to be space for a traditional front door on the passenger side. Instead, a large electric sliding door dominates the side profile, giving access to a cavernous interior.

Lexus No details were shared, but it’s reasonable to assume the LS concept is all-electric. This would make sense, because electric cars allow for better packaging to maximize cabin space. The tall, flat-roofed silhouette enhances the impression of an upscale living room on wheels.
As if the six glowing wheel setup wasn’t wild enough, the… L.S The concept also appears to have a bold lighting design. The vertical LED daytime running lights extend to the full height of the front fascia, while the rear light bar extends upwards to emphasize the car’s significant height.
Aside from trucks and SUVs like the AMG G63 6×6, there are few cars with three axles. The Hispano Suiza H6 had six wheels more than a century ago. The Covini C6W did things differently by having four front wheels, just like the Tyrrell P34 in Formula 1. But realistically, we can’t imagine Lexus selling this exotic LS car as is.
After all, it’s a concept car. The third axle is a surefire way to attract attention, as if using the distinctive LS name for such an unconventional car wasn’t already controversial. While purists may scoff at the idea of an LS pickup truck, others will likely find Lexus’ experimental direction for its flagship vehicle interesting. Either way, it’s a bold move.
The Lexus LS concept will share the spotlight at the 2025 Japan Mobility Expo with a luxury Century coupe and perhaps a Corolla oncept.
