Mercedes-Benz teases a larger illuminated grille

The distinctive design feature of the latest Mercedes-Benz electric cars is the huge illuminated front grille. We saw him for the first time The new GLC with EQand The upcoming C-Class EV You will get something similar. But Mercedes is going further. Much bigger. Mercedes design chief Gorden Wagener teased a larger grille on the front of what appears to be some sort of new sedan on Instagram.

We’re getting strong S-Class vibes here. The first S-Class sedans used a rather long and narrow grille of this shape. This design is particularly reminiscent of the grilles found on the “Fintail” W112/W113 S-Class, and its successor, the W108/W109. Later S-Class models moved to a shorter and wider grille as styles changed.

Also note the Mercedes’ illuminated three-pointed star hood ornament. For a long time, most Mercedes models had a logo like this on the hood, but now, only some E-Class Sedan and S-Class models get the hood ornament. It’s possible that Wagner is teasing a new E-Class EV here, however Mercedes has already confirmed that an electric S-Class built on the automaker’s new MB.EA platform is on its way. It will replace the slow-selling EQS model.

On the GLC, it’s the illuminated grille It has 942 LED pixels To recreate previous Mercedes radiator grille parts. This comes at a time when BMW is taking inspiration from the design of its grille from the past in Neue Klasse EVs, although the Bavarian company is already working on reducing its grilles.

Under Wagner’s leadership, Mercedes has become more aggressive in its styling and design, with large logos everywhere, prominent lighting features, and cabins full of screens. The EQ family of electric cars, with their low-drag, cab-forward designs, have been unsuccessful, but Mercedes is not backing down from making a splash with its upcoming electric cars.
