When Nissan introduced the new LEAF in August, it proudly announced that the third-generation model would be the least expensive electric car in the United States. However, this is no longer the case. Undercutting the $31,485 Leaf S+ is Chevrolet’s returning Bolt, specifically the crossover’s EUV variant. The launch version will arrive early next year, starting at US$29,990, followed a few months later by a cheaper US$28,995 version. All prices include destination and handling fees.
until April The company has revealed pricing for the entry-level Leaf S, with the 2027 Bolt holding the title of America’s cheapest electric car. It’s a welcome sight in an ever-expensive electric vehicle market and brings several significant upgrades over its predecessor. The old Bolt EUV was rated at 55 kilowatts on fast charging, but the new model nearly triples that number, going up to 150 kilowatts.
The new Bolt loses the “EUV” suffix and gets a 65-kilowatt-hour lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery that can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes using Tesla-NACS connector style. A full charge results in a GM-estimated 255 miles of range, a modest bump from the outgoing model’s EPA-rated 247 miles.
Clearly an evolution rather than a clean redesign, the new Bolt EUV will be built in Kansas City. It borrows the front-mounted single engine from Electric moderationNow its power is 210 horsepower. That’s a small gain of 10 hp.
