The new high-performance Ford Mustang is a drifter’s dream


Ford has really focused on performance with the seventh-generation Mustang, launching the new Dark Horse and GTD models. Now, the automaker wants to offer a performance option for budget enthusiasts – the 2026 Mustang EcoBoost RTR package.

Upgrades from RTR make Mustang Drift machine is more capable. The package features Brembo brakes from the GT Performance package – six-piston front and four-piston rear – while Ford engineers borrowed the Dark Horse’s rear subframe and front and rear sway bars to stiffen things up.

It has “improved steering gear with increased travel,” as well as unique tunes for the stability control system and available MagneRide dampers, which are designed to deliver “better drifting performance.”

The Mustang’s electronic drift braking is standard, as is the model’s active valve performance exhaust, which Ford covers with quad exhaust headers.

Ford It doesn’t make any direct upgrades to the powertrain, with the standard 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder still producing 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The RTR package comes with the RTR anti-lag system, which Ford claims is based on technology from the GT race car.

Added performance benefits coincide with visual flare. The package includes RTR illuminated nostrils, RTR grille, GT front fascia, GT Performance Pack rear spoiler and RTR badge. It also adds dark anodized distortion pony and mirror caps, along with dark anodized distortion graphics.

Ford will offer a Hyper Lime exterior package that replaces the black Brembo brake calipers with Hyper Lime ones. Hyper Lime accents will also add to the dark anodized graphics.

Inside, the Hyper Lime theme continues with contrast stitching on the dashboard, center console, door pockets and drift brake. Standard upholstery and extras are available at no cost, but you’ll be reminded of the package when you open the door or start the engine, with RTR-specific graphics displayed.

The only thing Ford didn’t mention about the new package is its price. It’s available in EcoBoost Mustang Fastback with High Package and EcoBoost Premium Fastback, which start at $36,510 and $38,340, respectively, for 2026.

Deliveries won’t start until next summer, so we expect pricing information to come closer to the launch date.
