You may not have heard of the Capricorn group, but you have probably seen their work. The company is a German company that supplies components to Formula 1, LMP1, the World Endurance Championship and other racing customers. The group has just introduced its first supercar, and it’s unlike anything currently on the market.
Dubbed the 01 Zagato, it’s a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive enthusiast’s machine and features a carbon fiber exterior created by An innovative car maker With the same name. The Capricorn Group doesn’t bother with screens and cutting-edge technology, instead, this hypercar is focused on creating an emotional driving experience, and the powertrain certainly helps with that.
Under the hood is a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 Ford Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, it sends 888 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The supercar can reach 62 mph in less than 3.0 seconds and is on its way to a top speed of 224 mph.
“The car is designed for driving pleasure, not for setting records,” says Robertino Wilde, founder and CEO of the Capricorn Group.
The Zagato powertrain has many custom components, such as the dry pump lubrication system, crankshaft, pistons, exhaust, and more. It even has a special ECU tune and special ABS software. Carbon ceramic brakes and six-piston calipers from Brembo hide behind the 21-inch Capricorn-style wheels, which are available in either lightweight alloy or carbon fibre.
Inside, the driver has three analogue gauges behind the leather-wrapped steering wheel which has only two buttons – the start button and the drive mode select button. That’s it. The cabin features fixed-position seats, as well as an adjustable pedal box, wheel and gear selector. Drivers can adjust the shifter longitudinally by 3.1 inches.
Almost the entire cabin is made of exposed carbon fibre, and Capricorn has machined the switchgear from solid titanium and aluminum. The seats feature Connolly leather with Alcantara accents throughout, and customers will have the option to customize them.
The 01 Zagato lacks any wild wings or other aerodynamic elements. According to the company, it aims to design a supercar with significant and consistent levels of downforce, which Zagato achieves through “interior airflow management and subfloor design.”
The supercar also features front and rear diffusers and a thin rear spoiler. What it lacks in wings, it makes up for in outlets.
Beneath the Zagato’s striking exterior is a carbon fiber bodywork, including the monocoque, crash members and front and rear subframes. It has double wishbones and a suspension system with Bilstein front and rear springs and dampers.
Capricorn will begin building the 01 Zagato in the first half of 2026. It is building just 19 examples, which will not be available in the United States. The cost of the new supercar is 2.95 million euros ($3.4 million at today’s exchange rate).
