Gymkhana is back with its latest release. That means there’s a crazy new Gymkhana design to go with it. We all remember Family seller– Travis Pastrana’s active Subaru GL built for Gymkhana 12. Now there’s an even crazier car, the “Brataroo 9500 Turbo,” the crazy carbon-bodied, 9500-rpm Subaru Brat active car that debuted at the 2025 SEMA Show.
As usual, the car was built by Vermont SportsCar Company (VSC) with a serious spec sheet to go with it. First, the 2.0-liter boxer engine (built in-house by VSC) is now good for 670 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque. Sure it’s been boosted to hell, but the exact details are unknown, and it’s not known if it’s a Subaru EJ or FA-based engine. Regardless, all its power is transferred through the Sadev gearbox to all four wheels.
The body has been custom-crafted and made entirely of carbon fibre, and features active aero elements similar to those found on the Huckster. Both front fenders have slots that rotate forward or backward to control front aero balance in flight.
The rear wing is also fully adjustable mid-flight and comes in two different types: a larger wing for high downforce and a smaller wing for “tire-shredding antics.” Khyzyl Selim, known as “Kiza” on social media, is responsible for the overall design of the wide-body range.
More details are hidden inside the custom Brat, such as a restored factory radio and a repurposed HVAC package to suit the Brataroo’s unique purpose. Now, HVAC controls are used to adjust active air. The radio and Uniden CB Radio are just there for the vibes. Travis Pastrana describes it best:
“This brat is totally messed up, in the best way possible.” It has the spirit of a vintage Subaru with the technology to do things no Gymkhana has done before. Every part of it is designed to take abuse, fly big, and come back for more. It’s the craziest Gymkhana we’ve ever made.
New Sports party Brataroo’s film, called Aussie Shred, will premiere in early December and was filmed in Australia. Knowing Pastrana, it’s definitely going to be crazier than ever, with life-defying stunts and plenty of risky driving.
For now, we’ll just have to wait to hear what the 9,500-rpm boxer engine sounds like mid-cruise.
