Lamborghini Temerario Super Trofeo switches to rear-wheel drive and loses its hybrid drive system


Electricity is essential, even for Lamborghini. Sant’Agata Bolognese must comply with increasingly stringent emissions regulations, which is why all of its road-going models are now hybrids. However, not every Raging Bull-badged car combines a combustion engine and an electric motor. The brand’s racing machines continue to follow the traditional formula, skipping electrically assisted drivetrains altogether.

after Temerario GT3the new Super Trofeo is also a pure ice machine. By doing away with hybridization, Lamborghini has developed another rear-wheel drive version of its successor, the Huracan. The exotic Italian marque is already hinting at a special street-legal rear-drive version, but for now, this configuration remains track-exclusive.

This second iteration of the Temerario race car is designed for Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo series, a one-make championship launched in 2009. While the Gallardo and Huracan Super Trofeo models use a naturally aspirated V-10, the latest race car adopts a twin-turbo V-8. In Super Trofeo tune, it produces 641 hp, or 148 hp less than the street car’s gas engine.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox, replacing the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic found in the road-going Temerario. The Super Trofeo shares a Hoer transmission and many components with the GT3, producing 577 hp based on Balance of Performance (BOP) adjustments for fairer competition.

Along with the non-electrified powertrain and new transmission, the Temerario Super Trofeo features a more aggressive body kit crowned by a massive rear spoiler. Interior photos have not been posted, however Lamborghini He says the track-only model features an FIA-compliant fully integrated roll cage and a Dinamica Infinity-covered dashboard. The latter is claimed to be the first application of “PES (polyester) single-component non-woven suede” in the automotive world.

Additional upgrades over the standard Temerario include 12-point adjustable traction control, Capristo exhaust, BMC air filters, and KW suspension. Lamborghini hasn’t revealed its weight, but the GT3 version weighs 2,866 pounds (1,300 kilograms) before fluids. By comparison, the road-legal car is 860 pounds (390 kg) heavier.

This difference comes not only from its hybrid all-wheel drive setup but also from the additional sound insulation, comfort features and other road-legal necessities. Knowing Lamborghini’s track record, a rear-wheel-drive model with a license plate seems inevitable, especially since CEO Reuven Mohr has as much implied.

Just as the Huracan eventually produced the STO, an equivalent version of the Temerario is almost certainly in the pipeline. Lamborghini also generated more excitement Off-road oriented modelsindicating the possibility of a higher-quality version of the Sterrato model to follow. But before all that, the priority is to start delivering the regular production model.

As for the Super Trofeo, it will not participate in the races until the 2027 season.
